The deadline to complete your Ration Card eKYC is just five days away, with August 5th being the final date. It is crucial to complete this process to continue receiving your ration benefits. If a family has five members and only three complete the eKYC, the names of the remaining two will be removed from the list. If no one in the family completes the process, the entire ration card will be cancelled.
This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to complete your Ration Card eKYC using your mobile phone, a process applicable to residents of all states across India.
Why is Ration Card eKYC Mandatory?
The government has mandated eKYC (Know Your Customer) to verify the authenticity of beneficiaries. The primary goal is to identify and remove fraudulent beneficiaries from the system, ensuring that benefits reach genuine individuals. The government needs to know if a person is alive or deceased, as often names are not removed after death, while attempts are made to add names even before a child is born.
This initiative is part of the “One Nation One Ration Card” scheme. The central government, not the state, provides the ration supplies like wheat, rice, and millet across all states. Since this is a central government scheme, eKYC is compulsory for everyone to avoid having your name and ration card cancelled. The verification is done via facial recognition instead of OTP because a deceased person’s mobile number might still be active, but their face cannot be faked for a live scan.
A Step-by-Step Guide to Complete Your eKYC
You can easily complete your eKYC from home using your mobile phone. Follow the steps below.
Step 1: Install the Necessary Applications
First, you need to install two applications from the Google Play Store on your mobile phone.
- Mera KYC: Open the Google Play Store and search for “Mera KYC.” Install this application.
- Aadhaar FaceRD: In the Play Store, also search for and install the “Aadhaar FaceRD” app. This is an official app from Aadhaar. Once installed, you just need to leave it on your phone; it will be used automatically during the process.
Step 2: Begin the eKYC Process
After installing both apps, open the Mera KYC application.
- The app will ask for permissions. Select “While using the app” to allow them.
- You will see fields for a username and password. You do not need to enter anything here.
- Simply click on the Select State option. The process is the same for all states.
- After selecting your state, click on the Verify Location button.
Step 3: Authenticate Using Your Aadhaar
You will now be prompted to enter your Aadhaar details for verification.
- Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number in the provided field.
- Click on Generate OTP. An OTP will be sent to the mobile number registered with your Aadhaar.
- Enter the received OTP and the captcha code shown on the screen.
- Click Submit.
If you see a “No Data Found” message, it means your Aadhaar number is not linked to any ration card. For those whose ration card is active and linked, your details will appear on the next screen.
Step 4: Complete the Face eKYC
Once you submit the OTP, you will see your details, including your Name, Home State, Card Number, and eKYC Status.
- Find and click on the Face eKYC option.
- The Aadhaar FaceRD app that you installed earlier will open automatically.
- The app will display instructions for the face scan. Ensure you have a clear background, proper lighting, and are not wearing a hat or glasses.
- Check the box to give your consent and click Proceed.
- Your phone’s camera will open. Position your face within the frame. The outline will be red if the position is incorrect. Adjust your phone and blink your eyes a couple of times until the outline turns green, indicating a successful scan.
Confirmation of Successful eKYC
Once your face is successfully captured, a confirmation message will appear on the screen: “eKYC Registered Successfully.”
Your eKYC is now complete. This simple two-minute process ensures that your ration card will not be cancelled and your name will not be removed from the list.
