The online application forms for the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana are now open. Applications for this scheme must be submitted in the name of a woman in the household, whether it’s a mother, sister, or wife.
Eligibility for a New Ujjwala 2.0 Connection
Before applying, it is important to check the eligibility criteria.
- Applicant Must Be a Woman: The application must be in the name of a woman who is at least 18 years of age.
- No Existing LPG Connection: There should not be any other LPG connection in the same household in the name of any family member. A woman can only receive one free connection under this scheme.
- Specific Categories: There are also specific provisions for categories such as SC, ST, and residents of tribal areas.
Documents Required for Application
To complete the application, you will need the following documents:
- Know Your Customer (KYC): This is primarily done through your Aadhaar card. An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number for instant verification.
- Bank Account: You need the details of a bank account to receive the subsidy.
- Aadhaar-Linked Mobile Number: An active mobile number linked to your Aadhaar is necessary for OTP verification.
- Ration Card (Optional): If you have a ration card, you can provide its details. However, it is not a mandatory document.
- Proof of Address: You will need to upload a document as proof of address. This can be your Aadhaar card, passport, bank account statement, electricity or water bill, or voter ID card.
- Passport-Size Photograph: A recent passport-sized photo of the applicant.
How to Apply Online: A Step-by-Step Process
Follow these steps to complete your application for the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
Step 1: Visit the Official Portal First, open Google on your phone or laptop and search for “PM Ujjwala”. Click on the official website link, which is pmuy.gov.in.
Step 2: Start the New Application On the homepage, you will see the option “Apply for New Ujjwala 2.0 Connection”. Click on this link to begin the application process.
Step 3: Select Your Gas Agency You will be asked to choose the LPG distributor that is nearest to you. You can select from Indian Oil, Bharat Gas, or HP Gas. Click on the “Click here to apply” button next to the agency of your choice. The application form is the same for all three agencies.
Step 4: Register for an LPG Connection After selecting your agency, you will be taken to their registration page. Look for the option “Register for LPG Connection” and click on it.
Step 5: Choose Connection Type and Distributor In the application form, first, select the connection type as “Ujjwala Beneficiary Connection”. Then, you need to select your distributor. If you know the distributor’s name, you can search for it directly. Otherwise, select the “Location Wise” option to find it using your State and District. A list of all distributors in your area will appear. Select the one nearest to you. When you select a distributor, their address and mobile number will be displayed, which you can note down. After selecting, click “Next”.
Step 6: Complete e-KYC and Personal Details The main registration form will now open.
- Accept the declaration by ticking the checkbox.
- Perform your e-KYC by entering your Aadhaar number and verifying it with the OTP sent to your linked mobile number.
- Fill in your personal details: Full Name (First, Middle, Last), Date of Birth, and Caste. Fields marked with a red star (*) are mandatory.
- If you have a Ration Card, enter the details. If not, you can leave this section blank.
Step 7: Provide Contact and Bank Details
- Select your location type (Rural or Urban) and fill in your complete address, including house number, city/town, district, and PIN code.
- Enter your mobile number and email ID (if available).
- Next, provide your bank account details carefully. This is mandatory for receiving the subsidy. Enter the bank’s IFSC code and your bank account number. Confirm the details to avoid errors. Enter your name as it appears on your bank account.
Step 8: Select Cylinder and Upload Documents
- Choose the type of LPG connection you want: the 14.2 kg cylinder (large) or the 5 kg cylinder (small).
- In the “Proof of Address” section, select one document you will provide (e.g., Voter ID card) and enter its number.
- Upload scanned copies of the required documents: your Aadhaar card, the selected Proof of Address document, and your passport-size photograph.
Step 9: Add Family Member Details and Submit
- Add the details of all members of your family. Click “Add Member” to add each person one by one.
- Finally, tick the declaration checkbox, enter the captcha code shown on the screen, and click the “Submit” button.
What to Expect After Submission
Once you submit the form, you will receive a registration number. The gas agency you selected will contact you within 5 to 7 days. Alternatively, you can call the distributor’s mobile number you noted earlier to follow up on your application status. The agency will verify your documents and bank account for the subsidy. Once the verification is complete, you will be provided with your free filled gas cylinder and stove from the agency.
