This guide will walk you through the complete process of applying for a new PAN card directly from your mobile phone or computer. There is no need to visit any center; you can apply from home and receive a physical PAN card with your photo and signature delivered to your doorstep.
Getting Started: The Initial Application
First, you need to begin the application process on the official PAN services portal.
- Open Google on your phone or laptop and search for “PAN card apply online.” Click on the first link for “Online PAN Application.”
- Once the application form opens, you will need to fill in the initial details.
- Under “Application Type,” select “New PAN – Indian Citizen (Form 49A).”
- For “Category,” choose “Individual,” as you are applying for a personal PAN card.
- Select your “Title” (e.g., Shri, Smt).
- Enter your Last Name/Surname and First Name exactly as they appear on your Aadhaar card. If you have a middle name, enter it in the designated field. For example, in the name “Rahul Kumar Singh,” Singh is the last name, Rahul is the first name, and Kumar is the middle name. If your name is just “Rahul,” only fill in the Last Name field.
- Enter your Date of Birth, Email ID, and Mobile Number.
- Check the box to agree to the terms and conditions, and then click “Submit.”
After submitting, you will be given a Token Number. It is important to note this number down or take a screenshot, as you will need it to continue your application. Click on “Continue with PAN Application Form” to proceed.
Filling Out the Main Application Form
The application is divided into five sections: Guidelines, Personal Details, Contact & Other Details, AO Code, and Document Details.
- On the first page, select the option “Submit digitally through e-KYC & e-Sign (Paperless).” This method uses your Aadhaar details for instant, online verification and is necessary for an application with a photo and signature.
- When asked “Whether physical PAN card is required?,” select “Yes” to ensure the card is mailed to your home address.
- Enter the last four digits of your Aadhaar number.
- Fill in your full name as it appears on your Aadhaar. Most of this will be pre-filled from the previous step.
- Select your gender (Male or Female).
- You will be asked if you are known by any other name. Select “No” if you are not.
- Next, you will need to enter your father’s details, including his Last Name, First Name, and Middle Name. Entering your mother’s name is optional.
- Under “Parent’s name to be printed on the PAN Card,” select “Father’s Name” and click “Next.”
Source of Income and Address Details
In this section, you will provide information about your income and address.
- For “Source of Income,” you can select Salary or Business if applicable. If you are a student or unemployed, it is recommended to select “No Income.”
- For your “Address for Communication,” select “Residence.”
- Fill in your complete residential address as mentioned on your Aadhaar card. This includes details like Flat/Room/Door/Block Number, Village, Post Office, Area/Locality, Town/City/District, and State. If you live in a village and do not have a flat or block number, you can enter any simple number like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. The Office Address section can be left blank.
- Enter your telephone number and email ID, then click “Next.”
Finding Your AO Code
The next step requires an AO Code, which you may not know. The form provides a simple way to find it.
- Scroll down to the “For help on AO Code” section.
- Select “Indian Citizens.”
- Choose your “State” and “City” from the drop-down menus.
- A list of area details will appear. Select the one that corresponds to your location.
- The AO Code, AO Type, Range Code, and AO Number fields at the top of the page will be filled automatically. If they are not, you can manually enter them from the information you just fetched.
- Click “Next” to proceed.
Document Submission and Declaration
In this final section, you will declare your proof documents and upload your photo and signature.
- For Proof of Identity, Proof of Address, and Proof of Date of Birth, select “Aadhaar Card” for all three options.
- In the “Declaration,” your name will appear. Select “Himself/Herself” from the dropdown.
- Enter your “Place” (your city or village name). The date will be filled automatically.
- Now, you must upload your photograph and signature. You should have a scanned copy of your recent photograph and your signature (signed on a blank white paper) saved on your device. Click the “+” icon to upload the photo and signature in their respective fields.
- Under “Upload Supporting Documents,” click “Add Document” and upload a scanned copy of your Aadhaar card.
- After uploading all documents, click “Submit.”
Final Confirmation and Payment
You will be shown a preview of your application.
- You are now required to enter the first eight digits of your Aadhaar number for final confirmation.
- Carefully review all the details in the form. If you need to make any changes, use the “Edit” button. Once you proceed, you cannot make further changes.
- If all details are correct, click “Proceed.”
- You will be directed to the payment page. Choose an online payment method (the second option covers methods like Paytm or UPI). The application fee is ₹106.90.
- Complete the payment. After a successful transaction, click “Continue.”
Aadhaar Authentication (e-KYC and e-Sign)
This is the final verification step to complete your paperless application.
- Check the box for Aadhaar authentication and click “Authenticate.”
- Click “Continue with e-KYC.” An OTP will be sent to the mobile number linked with your Aadhaar.
- Enter the OTP and click “Submit.”
- Next, click “Continue with e-Sign.”
- You will be redirected to the NSDL e-sign page. Check the box at the top, enter your full Aadhaar number, and click “Send OTP.”
- Enter this final OTP to complete the e-sign process.
Your application is now successfully submitted. A confirmation message will appear, and you can download the acknowledgment receipt as a PDF. This receipt contains your acknowledgment number, which can be used to track your application status.

You can check the status of your application after a few days.
- Go to the same PAN application portal.
- Click on the “Know Status of Your PAN Application” option.
